Connecticut for 9 days, I ordered this generator from Electric Generators Direct on Monday October 3. Paid the rush delivery fee of $5. Wednesday or Thursday for my pick up. It finally showed up on Saturday. I got it home Saturday morning assembled it, gassed and oiled it and went to start it. Problem was that the pull cord didn't pull.

This machine never ran while in my possession. Of course since it was Saturday and EGD and Briggs and Stratton were both closed I had to wait until Monday to speak with anyone. I did look on the Briggs and Stratton website for trouble shooting ideas.
I tried the only thing listed, which was to remove the spark plug and see if that relieved pressure. No luck with that. On Monday I spoke with a person at EGD, they returned the message I left on Saturday around lunch time on Monday. I consider their response time somewhat reasonable. Since the machine had been fueled I could not return it to them.

My only option is to send it to a local repair shop. So then I call the Briggs and Stratton service number and the local repair shop. Both of which quickly put the blame on EGD for selling repackaged equipment.
Now that is all unsubstantiated, but the Briggs and Stratton guy said the repair shop will be able to tell if the machine was ever run. The repair shop will not touch the machine for at least 4 weeks from the time I bring it in. Which will be Saturday, so make that 5 weeks after I got the machine.
Will the repair shop be able to fix it? Is the engine siezed as both the Briggs and Stratton and Repair shop suspect? Will Briggs and Stratton or EGD make this right? I guess maybe sometime in December or January I might get the answer to that. In the meantime, I'm going to go buy another generator so I don't get stuck without power at the next major storm which could happen long before this mess gets resolved.
I will be buying a different brand and will be buying from a local dealer that will assemble and run the machine before I take delivery. I just don't see myself ever again buying gas powered machinery from an online company, or anyone that does not assemble and test the machine before delivery (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). I fully expect that EGD and/or Briggs and Stratton will make things right by me for this purchase, but in the end it is just not worth all of the additional work that I now have to go through for a machine that didn't work from day 1. Very disappointing!! At least I have my power restored.
